ICORP was founded by South African national Marc McDonald, a veteran of the South African National Parks system. Marc established an ICORP Counter-Poaching Unit in the Massingir District in Mozambique that struggled against criminal poaching syndicates targeting wildlife in that country and across the border in South Africa. In 2018, the management of ICORP elected to relocate to South Africa to continue the struggle against wildlife crime. In August 2018, ICORP signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the SanWild Wildlife Trust establishing a partnership between the two organizations. Under the terms of the MOU, ICORP provides a Counter-Poaching Unit mandated to secure and protect the wildlife at SanWild’s sanctuary.
The SanWild Wildlife Trust was established in 2000 as a non-profit organization that established a protected wildlife sanctuary where rescued animals could be returned back to the wild. Today, the sanctuary spans over 12,000 acres and plays a meaningful role in South Africa’s conservation efforts.
